I am Ankita Srivastava, a film student from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. I come from a small village in Bihar. Inspirations for my films and paintings are from my life experiences, incidents and surroundings. My films has a mixture of fictional and documentary elements that breaks down the complexities of human life and presents them with simplicity. As a painter and film-maker, I have a special way of seeing and presenting things which is honest and moving.
I was introduced to Raasleela during my documentary course in college.
During my visits to the studio, more than the final products or the brand, it was the process behind the garments, the lives and experiences of the women who make them, and their relation with the craft and the material that really resonated with me.
As conversations progressed, I learnt the support and stability that their craft and their work provided them with, that not only helped them financially, but also gave them the confidence and strength to negotiate with the outside world.
I documented the journey of one of the artisan, Dilshad Banu during my documentary course.
